See below for standard course of fire for rifle events.
VINTAGE BOLT ACTION MILITARY RIFLE: WWI or WWII rifles in essentially original military condition (no sporter stocks, optical sights, etc.) such as Springfield 1903 or 1903A3, 1917 Enfield, K98 German, Mk1 No.3, Mk 4 No.1 or No.5 British, M91 Italian, any of that series, M39 Finnish, M91-M38-M44 Russian, M96-M38 Swedish, K11-K31 Switzerland, 1916 Spanish in 7X57 or 1938 Spanish in 8mm, M24 Chek, Polish just to name a few.
M1 Garand Rifle: Rifle is in essentially original military configuration using one 8 round enbloc clip, one 2 round enbloc clip and ammunition.
AR-15 and M1-A Rifles: Rifles are in essentially military type configuration using standard 20 round straight magazines (curved 30 round magazines are also permitted for AR-15 rifles) and ammunition.
M1 Carbine Rifle: Rifle is in essentially originally military configuration using standard 15 round magazines and ammunition.
If you don't have a a particular type rifle but would like to participate, rifles for the match will normally be available for use. Each competitor must furnish their own ammunition. Ammunition may be factory or handloaded, however, standard factory ammunition (other than CMP style Lake City or Greek) is not normally recommended for M1 Garand rifles.
Standard Course of Fire for Vintage Rifle, M1 Garand, AR-15, M1-A, and M1 Carbine:
Stage 1 - 15 round prone:
(5 rounds sighting, 10 rounds for record ): Start in the prone position with the rifle pointed in a safe direction. All rounds for the are loaded and fired one at a time. Fifteen minutes are allowed for this stage. The sling may be used for this stage.
Stage 2 - 10 rounds standing to prone:
Vintage Rifle: Start in the standing position with the rifle pointed in a safe direction; five rounds are loaded with a stripper clip and the bolt is left open. At the command "Commence firing" the shooter drops to the prone position, closes the bolt and fires the five rounds; shooter then reloads five more rounds with a stripper clip and fires them. Time limit is 80 seconds.
Garand match: Start in the standing position with the rifle pointed in a safe direction; two rounds are loaded with an enbloc clip, safety is engaged and the bolt is then closed. At the command "Commence firing" the shooter drops to the prone position, disengages the safety and fires the two rounds; shooter then reloads with an eight round enbloc clip and fires them. Time limit is 80 seconds.
M1 Carbine: Same as Garand match except as follows: standard 15 round carbine magazines are used.
The sling may be used in this stage.
Stage 3 - 10 rounds standing:
Start in the standing position with the rifle pointed in a safe direction. All rounds are loaded and fired one at time. Ten minutes are allowed for this stage. The sling is NOT used in the standing position; it must be off the rifle or in the parade position.
The firing for all stages is done at 200 yards on SR targets except Carbine which is 100 yards on SR-1 targets.
If you have any questions on the these rifle events, please email the club (gunclub@fidmail.com).
Centerfire Pistol Shooting:
These events will be designed to also accommodate those shooters with limited experience using center fire pistols and revolvers who wish to become more proficient.
There will be a mix of targets using parts of Police Pistol Competition (PPC), the CMP version of Bullseye and reactive steel. Target ranges will vary from 3 to 25 yards and eventually 50 yards. Stages will have liberal time limits to keep the stages moving and, as proficiency grows, may include shooting with strong or weak hand only, multiple target engagement and magazine/speedloader changes.
We will start with simple designs to first determine and increase the proficiency of the participants and then add more difficult scenarios later.
Equipment:
Any military or police type pistol or double action revolver, with iron sights (either fixed or adjustable), chambered for 9mm to .45 ACP cartridges or other military type ammunition. Revolvers chambered for .357 magnum must use .38 Special ammunition - wadcutters are permitted.
Revolvers may be shot single or double action (we encourage at least 1/2 be double action). We also suggest double action first shot for traditional double action pistols.
Ammunition may be factory or hand loaded with jacketed or lead bullets. For safety purposes we strongly recommend lead bullets for steel targets. Eye protection is recommended for all shooting but is mandatory when shooting steel targets.
Barrel length should generally not be less than 4" or more than 6". At least one spare magazine for pistols and one speed loader for revolvers would be helpful.
Holsters, pistol belts and magazine/speed loader pouches are permitted but not required. We want you to have fun without requiring the purchase of these items.
If you have any questions, please send them to gunclub@fidmail.com attn: Phil Anderson.
