Promoting the safe enjoyment of shooting sports.
Located on north side of Highway 28 West approximately 2 miles west of Owensville, MO city limits. We are affiliated with the National Rifle Association (NRA), Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP). and Missouri Sport Shooting Association (MSSA). We are also a strong supporter of the Gasconade County 4H Shooting Sports Program.
Facilities: Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays, 100 Yard Rimfire and Pistol Range, and 25-550 Yard Rifle Range.
For safety purposes and to keep noise and maintenance of the facilities at a minimum, Full-Auto and large caliber (example - .50 BMG) and similar type firearms are not permitted.
Non-members are invited to participate in any Special or Benefit match and all the matches listed on the Events Schedule page, however, for other non-match recreational shooting, sighting in rifles and pistols, etc., range privileges are for current members and their guests only.
A current member is one who has paid the annual maintenance/insurance dues for this year. As of March 1, 2008 any member who has not paid their maintenance/insurance fee will have membership privileges, including use of ranges for personal recreational shooting, suspended until the fee is paid. If you think this is tough, check out the membership requirements and cost of joining (and renewing membership in) this club: http://www.weepingwatergunclub.com/
I recently received the following question enclosed with the $20 annual maintenance/insurance fee: "When I joined I thought I had life time membership. How come I pay $20 every year?"
This is my response to him and all members:
Dear member:
In reference to your question about the $20 that members are asked to pay every year:
This fee has nothing to do with the membership fee that everyone paid when they first joined. That is a one time membership fee (lifetime if you will).
The $20 fee is used to pay the club’s liability insurance and maintenance of the property and equipment. The annual fee goes toward paying the electric, trash and phone bills, grass cutting, property insurance, liability insurance, maintenance of the trap machines and tractor and improvements to the ranges and clubhouse. There are also costs involved with sending the annual mailing to members, replacing the wire backing on the rifle range target stands, refurbishing the shooting benches, and buying clay targets for the shotgun matches.
These items are ongoing monthly/annual expenses that are can’t be covered only by new memberships as those are one time payments of $50.00. All of the money received in memberships, annual insurance/maintenance and match fees goes back into the club so that members have the best facilities we can provide.
During the last two years we’ve improved the shooting distance and functional operation of the rifle and pistol/rimfire ranges, completed the roof on the pistol/rimfire ranges, bought new trap machines, and remodeled the kitchen and interior of the club house. Our expenses don’t normally include any reimbursement to members who volunteer their time and, in some cases, equipment/materials to fix things that we would have to pay someone else to do.
The membership and maintenance/insurance amounts, to my knowledge, have not changed since they were established which was before I joined the club. I think that if you check with other clubs you will find that our fees are quite reasonable compared to what they charge to join and renew memberships.
We have now made payment of the maintenance/insurance fee mandatory for any member using the club for personal recreational shooting and/or other member benefits. This is stated in the club’s By-Laws that were passed by the members in attendance at the annual meeting on February 17, 2008. If we check and find anyone using the range that has not paid the fee for the current year, they will be asked to pay to $20.00 or leave.
If a member doesn’t use the club facilities any longer, I don’t have a problem with them not paying the annual fee as they not receiving the benefits of those that do use the club. However, I think it’s fair to ask members who use the facilities to help pay for its continuing upkeep. I don’t think it’s fair for members who use the ranges to benefit from the improvements and coverage by the liability insurance without paying for them.
I hope this answers your question of why we ask members to pay the $20.00 every year.
Very truly yours,
Philip Anderson
